President Biden’s dogs have been moved out of the White House and back to their Delaware home for a temporary “time out” after the younger Shepherd, Major reportedly bit a member of White House security.
The dogs, 3-year-old Major and 13-year-old Champ, were taken back to the Biden family home in Delaware last week after what sources described as a “biting incident.”
Major Biden, who made headlines in January when he became the first shelter dog to move into the White House, had previously displayed reactive behaviors including barking, growling, and lunging at White House staff.
It should come as no surprise, then, that Major’s stress signals and warnings weren’t appropriately addressed, the younger of the two Biden Shepherds would eventually bite. A member of the White House security team reportedly suffered a bite. It is unknown how serious the injuries were.
“With the first lady traveling for three days, Champ and Major went to Delaware to stay with family friends,” Michael LaRosa, the first lady’s spokesman, told USA TODAY in an email. At this time, they are expected to eventually return to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, hopefully with concessions in place to make Major feel more at home and safe in his new digs.
