On March 09, 2023, Stratford Care USA, Inc, a pharmaceutical company that manufactures products in the veterinary industry, recalls multiple brands of Omega-3 Supplements for cats and dogs due to potentially elevated levels of Vitamin A.
Vitamin A is an essential nutrients for dogs. But ingesting too much of it can lead to different health issues.
And depending on the level of Vitamin A ingested and the length of exposure, pets can suffer from general malaise, anorexia, nausea, peeling skin, weakness, tremors, convulsions, paralysis, and even death.
The decision to recall the products came after Stratford Care USA, Inc received a single (and the only) Serious Adverse Event from a sole consumer who reported that their dog exhibited signs of Vitamin A toxicity after taking the supplement.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Stratford Care USA, Inc is currently collaborating with them in taking all necessary steps to remove all affected products from the market.
The Omega-3 Supplements for cats and dogs was distributed throughout the U.S in different Veterinary Clinics, Distribution Centers, Retail Stores, and Online Market Places such as Amazon and Chewy.
The supplements are a private label under various brand names. But the white plastic container has the markings “lot 31133 EXP 04/13/23” and “lot 30837 EXP 10/26/22” on the bottom of the container.

The company is asking pet owners who bought the supplements to immediately stop using it and to dispose the products correctly, so that no other animal can access and eat it.
On the other hand, veterinary clinics and all retail partners are asked to remove and destroy the supplements from their inventory.
