Bisbee, an English Setter from Tucson, Arizona claimed the paws-ome Guinness World Record title for the “Longest Tongue On a Living Dog”.
This three-year-old dog will surely give you quite the kiss with his licker! This is because Bisbee’s tongue measures 3.74 inches (9.49 cm) and is longer than a popsicle stick.
According to the Guinness World Record, to claim this record, “a dog’s tongue is measured from the tip of the snout. The dog must have its tongue out of its snout as far as comfortably possible, when a qualified vet will then measure from the tip up to where it is first visible out of the snout.”
Jay and Ericka Johnson, Bisbee’s fur parents, first met him as a puppy being auctioned off to raise money for a charity. And they instantly fell in love with the pooch!
And soon enough, the Johnsons noticed something a bit odd about Bisbee.
According to Ericka, Bisbee looked funny when he panted and that when his tongue comes out, it looked excessively long.
To further check Ericka’s observation, she sent a picture of Bisbee panting to her sister and dad, and one of them mentioned that Bisbee’s tongue could be a record breaker.
Ericka said she tried to measure Bisbee’s tongue while panting, but was not really getting an accurate measurement. So, Bisbee, who suffers from hip dysplasia, got his tongue measured while sedated for one of his hip x-rays.
Jay, on the other hand, thought Bisbee’s tongue looked normal. But then added, “but she [Ericka] took it upon herself to prove me wrong and had his tongue measured and lo and behold he’s got a long, long tongue.”
The Johnsons are proud of Bisbee’s achievement but are prouder to be part of their fur baby’s life. “We feel we were lucky to get him, and he was lucky to get us”, said Jay.
Before Bisbee claimed the record, a St. Bernard named Mochi from South Dakota, USA held the title “Longest Tongue On a Living Dog” until she passed away in 2021.
Mochi had a 7.31 inches (18.58 cm) licker, which is twice the length of Bisbee’s!
