Celebrities, especially those that influence millions of young people through their words and actions, have a social responsibility to be good role models. The Dogington Post is disappointed by one such celebrity, reality star Khloe Kardashian. An outspoken animal rights activist and former spokesperson for PETA, Kardashian is in a unique position to encourage animal adoption and the support of animal rescue. Instead, she’s indirectly supporting puppy mills.
Khloe Kardashian-Odom, the outspoken brunette bombshell made famous through reality TV hits like “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and her own spin-off show with basketball player husband, Lamar Odom, “Khloe and Lamar” announced to her over 8 million Twitter fans yesterday that she and Lamar got a new Boxer puppy.
Just last week, the reality star blogged about her pet store visit with Olympic gold medalist step-dad, Bruce Jenner, saying:
On Wednesday before a family dinner out, Bruce and I saw a pet store and I couldn’t resist saying hi to the puppies. They were SO cute!!!!! One is a Yorkie, one is a Shorkie and one is a Morkie. I’m not kidding LOL. I wanted to take one home so badly… I’m a sucker for puppies.
Lamar, the doting husband that he is, surprised Khloe on Tuesday with a puppy of her own, reportedly purchased from a pet store. The puppy, a tiny precious Boxer is named Bernard Hopkins, a nod to the famous professional boxer. But is being called “Bee” for short.
With over 2 million homeless dogs sitting in shelters and rescue organizations around the nation, it’s shocking that someone would visit a pet store to purchase a dog. Additionally, it’s becoming widely known – especially to animal rights activists like Khloe claims to be – that the puppies being sold in retail pet stores come from puppy mills. It is the retail sale of puppies through such stores and the internet that is keeping puppy mills in business.
We know that little “Bee” will have a wonderful home, with a large, loving family that adores him. We only wish that Khloe was using her fame and influence to promote animal adoption, rather than supporting puppy mills through thoughtless actions.
i hate puppy mills
A Message to Khloe: Stop Supporting Puppy Mills! | The Dogington Post
Kate Watson
says:Behind every cute puppy sold in a pet store, there’s a suffering breeder dog who will spend most of her life, probably in a cage, producing one litter after another. Every time they look at this sweet pup’s face, Khloe and Lamar should think about the misery and cruelty they’ve helped to perpetuate. What a shame they didn’t take this opportunity to set a great example.
Hi there, simply was aware of your blog via Google, and located that it’s truly informative. I’m gonna be careful for brussels. I’ll appreciate when you proceed this in future. Numerous other folks shall be benefited out of your writing. Cheers!

says:Just where do you think the inventory of your local animal pound comes from? Indiscriminate breeders and puppy mills, that’s where! Buy from responsible, established, dedicated breeders and spay/neuter your pets. Please, for the sake of the dogs.

says:Khloe, Since you say you are an animal activist An outspoken animal rights activist and former spokesperson for PETA, Kardashian is in a unique position to encourage animal adoption and the support of animals.
Maybe you honestly don’t know, but by buying a puppy from a pet store or a back yard breeder, you are contributing to Puppy Mills, if you haven’t, please do research on Puppy Mills. Most puppies that are in pet stores come from puppy mills. If you truly care for the welfare treatment of animals puppy mills are a Huge No NO, I went on petfinder yesterday, there are over 370,000 animals that need homes just from that website, animal shelters are full of dogs, thousands of these dogs and cats are put down every year because they are not wanted. Please save a life of a dog by adopting. Puppy Mills just continue to add to the problem of unwanted dogs, and the condition of most of these are in appalling condition that the mommies and daddies and puppies have to live in they care nothing for these dogs that they are breeding, they just want the puppies, Greed, Greed, Greed.
Save a life, adopt, thank you

says:So, are we condemning the puppies to die? They probably are not very healthy, born in the environments most of them are, but in Khloe’s place, I couldn’t possibly return the puppy. What IS the answer for the pups in stores: we’ve got to get the puppy mills shut down! Those stores expect people to pay $1,000 & up for their puppies, an outrageous fee anyway! It is painful to walk through stores that have live puppies.

says:Anyone know how to get in touch with Khloe and educate her about puppy mills and pet stores!

says:Don’t buy from a pet store, adopt a rescue or from a Humane Society, they need us more now that ever. I have 2 rescues and love them very much.

says:How can you be so ignorant Khloe!? Do some research before you get a puppy from a pet store!
It may be ignorance, but I hate to say, some people just don’t care. As long as they get what they are looking for.
