If Olympic medals were handed out for doing good deeds, the athletes from Team USA would be bringing home even more Gold!

While Russian authorities quietly ordered a massive effort to destroy the thousands of stray dogs roaming the streets of Sochi in advance of the Winter Olympic Games, good Samaritans, rescuers, and visiting athletes have been working, instead, to save these dogs, giving them loving homes in America!

Check out the adorable new best buddy adopted by Olympic Snowboarder, Lindsey Jacobellis:

Team USA hockey forward T.J. Oshie and his St. Louis Blues teammate David Backes both found love in Sochi:

American Women’s Hockey olympian Kelli Stack is cheered on by her new love, Horsey:

And, freeskier Gus Kenworthy is working hard to bring home a mother and her four precious pups:

With five more days remaining in the Winter Olympic Games, there’s still plenty of time for more Olympians to bring home what will surely prove to be the best prize of all – a new best friend!

  1. I’m really enjoying the theme/design of your website. Do you ever run into any browser
compatibility issues? A small number of my blog readers
have complained about my website not working correctly in Explorer but looks great in Opera.
Do you have any suggestions to help fix this problem?

I think it is great they stepped up and helped. Last time I heard there was a 6 month quarantine for animals entering the USA. Wonder if it was waved for these animals? It would be horrible for them to have to be locked in some govt. quarantine for the first 6 months.

  3. BLESS ALL OF YOU ATHELETES FROM U.S.A

Thank you for being angels to these helpless dogs. May God bless each and every persons that are making a difference and I hope all the other dogs are placed in a good shelter where they will be care for.

  5. I love dogs too and want to pick up every stray I see. I do understand wanting to save those dogs. However, there are 6 to 8 million dogs and cats sitting in shelters in the United States waiting for someone to take them home. Approx 2.7 million, one every 11 seconds, will be euthanized this year. The expense of bringing those dogs to the US could feed so many of our strays and buy them more time. Come home and adopt. Use your influence after the games to promote shelter adoptions and to put a stop to puppy mills.

YES!!! Listen to Frankie it is all so true! However you are also commended for helping the strays there as well. Word is out that they are being killed “so they aren’t in the way of the tourists” BARBARIC PEOPLE!

I agree with Frankie Phillips in the post above. I love dog too and therefore for the last six years, I have worked tirelessly to save our dogs here in Tennessee where I live. 30.6% of our residents live below the poverty level. Our group with very few resources have helped spay and neuter 2,464 dogs and cats for low-income pet owners who can’t afford to have their dogs and cats sterilized. We were like Sochi with strays everywhere. Some friends and I with our own money have picked up and fostered over 600 pets and transported them to shelters in other counties and other states. The need here in our county and in our country is overwhelming. VERY few people donate to our spay/neuter program. What about being a hero to our American animals. The money it takes to get some of these dogs home could have stopped the birth of hundreds of unwanted litters of puppies and kittens on our mountain through spay/neuter prevention.

    • Whenever someone does something nice it seems someone else puts a damper on It. I realize that there are many animals needing homes here in the U.S. I am all for getting the word out there. however, Don’t make these kids feel guilty for doing something they felt was a good deed ! Just sayin.

I think this shows how we care, as Americans. We have a problem here in the states, too many to mention. But we also have people that care enough to step up. Thank you to our Olympians!! I dare say, some of the best EVER!

You all are winners regardless of which level. Please save as many of those poor homeless animals as possible! Rescues will help once they are back in this country.
