Which are the dogs with the longest lifespans? One of the downsides of dog ownership is that we humans typically outlive our dogs, making this a natural question. According to pets.webmd.com, the smaller the dog, the longer the lifespan. The weight factors in more heavily than the height. Females also tend to live a bit longer. Below they share interesting research and average lifespans of the most popular breeds. Dogs with the longest lifespans include Chihuahuas, Maltese, and Miniature Schnauzers.
Nearly 40% of small breed dogs live longer than 10 years, but only 13% of giant breed dogs live that long. The average 50-pound dog will live 10-12 years. But giant breeds such as great Danes or deerhounds are elderly at 6-8 years.
Kimberly Greer, PhD, an assistant professor at the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at Indiana University East, co-authored a study that showed that dogs weighing less than 30 pounds lived the longest. The study analyzed data from more than 700 dogs in 77 breeds…

says:Today is Feb. 4, 2016. We have a Purebred Siberian Husky Named “Cody”. We got her at 2 1/2 months old. She was all white with a touch of Caramel color on the edges of her ears & she Had THEE Bluest eyes I have EVER seen on ANY dog, & MOST people! She was BEAUTIFUL!! We got her basically for my fiancé so she wouldn’t be alone at night when I worked. Cody was HER 1st dog she ever owned & the two of them were VERY much alike! BOTH could be VERY stubborn!! They loved each other VERY MUCH & that was their bond! I was looked at as the “Alpha Dog”. Cody looked to me to “Take care of her” when something was wrong with her. She was an AMAZING & VERY LOVING dog. She was our “Child”….. We JUST “Put her Down”. It was THEE hardest thing I”ve ever done. I didn’t think it would “HIT” me like it has & DID! It happened yesterday. Cody was 17 1/2 yrs. old…..I STILL have NOT stopped crying, or welling up with tears. I am 59 yrs. old & have owned 9 dogs in my life & NEVER had to “Put Down” ANY of my dogs. They ALL died naturally. I MISS “Cody”. She was a Beautiful & Loving & Wonderful Dog….& FRIEND…….

says:My family adopted a six week old golden/cocker mix runt in march of 1989 when I was 18. His birthdate was jan 20. On jan 23 of 2010 I buried him with a few of his 100’s of tennis balls. I was 39 then…. The the math is easy, and yes he had a few sips of wine (legally I may add) to help him off to his final nap. What a great pup. “Sparky”

says:My Brittany has just past after 19 1/2 years. The last 3 years were hard as her vision, hearing and house training were in decline. She did not pass due to any one issue, she was just a very old gal. The last 3 years were hard but she gave me 19 1/2 of love and I did her.

says:My female Jack Russell Terrier died in 2011 just a month shy of 16 and my older male JRT will be 16 in April. She had had a stroke, but my male is in pretty good health, so he may last longer than she did. He still plays like a puppy!
