A good Samaritan and New York Fire Department officials rescued a dog nicknamed Aquaman after it was reportedly thrown off a bridge and into the Harlem River.
According to a post on social media by the FDNY, the tragic occurrence happened on July 19. Marine 4 from the New York Fire Department responded to a complaint about a dog in trouble in the Harlem River after allegedly being thrown off a bridge.
According to New York ABC station WABC, Lt. Salvatore Sodano of Marine 4 saw a bystander in the water with the struggling animal, trying to keep it afloat and save it from drowning.
Although it is currently unknown who may have thrown the dog into the river or why, officials were able to save the animal thanks to their swift action and the assistance of the good Samaritan.
The authorities did not further disclose the animal’s age, condition, and breed, but the social media post had more than 8,500 likes in less than 24 hours.
The situation for this animal could have been quite different, according to the FDNY, had it not been for the fast arrival of both civilian and FDNY personnel.
The dog is being cared for by the Animal Care Centers of New York City, and some heroic firefighters are excited about adopting the canine!
