Niagara Falls names a German Shepherd, named Pal, the city’s honorary mayor for a day on March 24, Friday for the pooch’s fundraising efforts.
The city’s mayor, Jim Diodati, honored Pal and his owner Mike Lalicich for all the efforts they did to raise money for the David Gregory MacKinnon Memorial Foundation, an organization that helps families affected by kidney disease.
According to CHCH News, Pal and Lalicich are trying to help the organization raise money for an ultrasound machine for the hospital’s kidney department. And to do this, Pal uses his pup-fluencer status on social media.
Pal and his owner uses their social media accounts, which have a combined total of over 600,000 followers, to share the pooch’s everyday life and talk about important issues.
Hooman mayor Jim Diodati told CTV News on Friday, “I made him mayor. I deputized him…he was in my office — I say my office, but it’s his now.”
Jim Diodati also shares the furry mayor’s platform for the city saying, “He wants more dog parks and he wants significantly more fire hydrants.”
Furthermore, Mayor Pal’s got to have his paw print on the city’s official visitor book, which had the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s 1951 signatures.
Talking to CHCH News, Lalicich shared that deputizing Pal for their fundraising effort was great but the most important thing for him is helping the community. “Anything I can do to raise money, we wanna do,” he said.
