Bobi, who was named the World’s Oldest Living Dog and the Oldest Dog Ever in February of this year, celebrated his 31st birthday on Thursday, May 11 in Conqueiros, Portugal.
Bobi’s monumental birthday was celebrated with a “very traditional” Portuguese party, according to owner Leonel Costa.
Guests were served with local meats and fish, while the bark-day celebrant, who only eats human food, got more (because it is what he deserves!) Furthermore, a dance troupe performed, where Bobi participated in one of the dances.
According to the official report of the Guinness World Record, the traditional birthday party had more than 100 guests, many of them flew in from other countries just to celebrate Bobi’s special day.
One of the guests, Dr. Karen Becker, a veterinarian and author, asked Costa what he thinks Bobi’s secret to a long life is, and the proud owner said, “homemade fresh food (never ultra-processed “dog food”), daily walks in nature, and lots of love.”
After being named the World’s Oldest Living Dog, Bobi became a worldwide sensation and had a lot of visitors from around the globe.
And although Bobi is healthy for his age, Costa recently took the supaw-star to the vet for a check-up. This is because he was concerned about the physical and mental stress Bobi might’ve suffered from after seeing all his visitors.
“There were a lot of pictures taken and he had to get up and down many times. It wasn’t easy for him,” Costa told the Guinness World Record.
Today, Bobi has some mobility and eyesight issues. And just like elderly humans, Bobi also gets easily tired and sleeps a lot.
However, other than these age-related issues, Bobi remains healthy so life isn’t very ruff for this wonderful pooch!
According to the Guinness World Record, Bobi’s birth date in 1992 has been confirmed and verified by Serviço Medico-Veterinário do Município de Leiria (Veterinary Medical Service of the Municipality of Leiria) and SIAC, a pet database authorized by the Portuguese government.
From all of us at Dogington, we wish Bobi a very happy 31st birthday!
