A Queens family reunites with their Pit bull mix, five months after it was stolen from them, at a Manhattan pet adoption event earlier this month.
The family of five was devastated when their 3-year-old pit bull mix, Mocha, was stolen from them back in January. They hoped that Mocha would return to them one day, but agreed that it was time to move on.
So, when the family turned up to the Animal Care Centers of New York City (ACC) adoption event at Manhattan’s Union Square Park, they were pleasantly surprised to see one of the dogs looking way too familiar.
“We were in the city and we heard about this event and as we were driving we were like, let’s go check it out,” the lost dog owner, a husband and father who didn’t want to be named, told The Daily News.
“We had enough time and we decided to take a ride over there, and take a look, not expecting to find Mocha. Just take a look to see if we could find a puppy. And as soon as we walked in, she was right there.”
According to the lost dog owner, his wife made a comment about a dog looking like Mocha. “I turn around, I take a glance and I said, ‘That is Mocha,'” he said.
Mocha, immediately responded to her name, and upon realizing that her whole family was there, perked her ears up and started jumping out of excitement.
Luckily, the family came at the right time and no one has adopted Mocha yet, even though the pit bull was one of the staff’s top pick to land a new permanent home.
After verifying the family’s proof of ownership, the ACC shared that they are overjoyed that Mocha has finally returned to her forever home.
According to The Daily News, the ACC team found the Pit bull mix tied up on New Lots Avenue in Brooklyn back in May.
The ACC named her Sandy, and volunteers and staff always noted that Mocha’s temperament “was that of a true family dog.”
Mocha was stolen back in January when the family went on a week-long vacation and was left to a dog-sitter. The dog-sitter never returned the family’s calls and unfortunately, the family’s dog.
