For the Glendale Police Department, the best thing since sliced bread was surprisingly, freshly baked pumpkin muffins when they rescued a German Shepherd stuck in a canal in Arizona.
The Glendale Police Department in Arizona shared a video of officers coaxing a German Shepherd with muffins to rescue it from a canal on June 17.
According to the Glendale Police Department, police officers responded to a report of a German Shepherd swimming in a canal with no route for escape.
When the police arrived on the scene, they saw a tired dog swimming back and forth in the canal. And during the rescue, the dog refused to get closer to the police officers.
Since the dog was skittish, the police had to come up with a unique plan. And when one of the officers asked, “you got any food?” to his fellow police, another officer, Officer Downey, just had the perfect “tool” to help with the rescue.
“Here, try this. It’s my wife’s pumpkin muffins,” said Officer Downey while approaching another officer, Officer Sorensen, who was trying to get hold of the dog.
According to the Glendale Police Department, the pumpkin muffins that Officer Downey offered where freshly baked muffins that his wife had packed for his patrol shift.
The police department described the pumpkin muffins as “just the bribery needed for this little pooch.”
“Officer Sorensen was able to use the muffin as a tool to get the dog close, at which time he grabbed onto his collar and removed him from the canal,” wrote the Glendale Police Department.
Towards the end of the body-cam video, the German Shepherd, who was not hurt, was seen being reunited with his owner. While Officer Downey can be heard joking, “The only thing is, I wasted my wife’s muffin.”
In response to the muffin situation, the Glendale Police Department jokingly wished that, “Officer Downey’s wife was able to whip up a new batch of muffins for him!”
