Just recently, the American Kennel Club released the 2021 ranking for the most popular dogs in the US. The Labrador Retriever maintained its streak as #1 for 31 years straight. But there was one breed that surprisingly crawled its way back to the top 5…
For the first time, in more than 2 decades, the Poodle ranks #5 as America’s most popular dog breed. Poodles were extremely popular back in the 1960s, and in fact, stayed as the most popular from 1960-1982. That’s two decades: a record that was hard to break before the Labrador came into the picture.
Poodles, typically known for their status symbols, have more to them than meets the eye. They were actually bred as water dogs, possessing both the brains and temperament to make them excellent companions.
Because of their allergy-friendly coats, they are also bred with other dog breeds such as Labradors to make the Labradoodle, and Maltese to make the Maltipoo.
What’s not to love about the Poodle?
